My images are reactive, and bathed in natural light; a synthesis of shapes that engage the senses.  They are not "set up" or forced.  Though my compositions flow away from the familiar, I avoid abstraction simply for its own sake.  Through the lens, I re-order and elevate familiar elements to fit a new vision, and stretch common perceptions of the world.  In many images, a quiet societal commentary supplements the visual experience.

The Metalscapes series signals the shaping of a new aesthetic for me, a vibrant alchemy of color, texture, balance and tension that produces a satisfying perception of pure form.  Despite the work’s underlying link to painting, it is not derivative, but rather depicts a “discordant harmony” that evades easy categorization.

Shot hand-held under available light, in 35mm and digital formats, my images invite the eye to wander through the frame.  And like music or poetry, they are only lightly tethered to simple realities.  They are suspended in a space of their own making.

I am based in the San Francisco Bay area, though I photograph throughout the country and beyond.
